An online “pet calorie calculator” has been launched after a survey showed 22% of pet owners believe their animal is overweight, yet 86% still feed them snacks outside of typical mealtimes.

August 2017 – Shailen Jasani (UK) and Viktor Szatmári (Netherlands) are the 2017 recipients of the FECAVA awards for best original and best reprint paper, respectively, published in the European Journal of Companion Animal Practice (EJCAP). The awards will be presented during the opening ceremony of the 23rd congress of the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA), to be held in Copenhagen next month.

A Bulgarian vet has been named by the WSAVA and Hill’s Pet Nutrition as the 2017 Next Generation Award winner. Luba Gancheva, who works in Romania, won after launching an online veterinary journal called Vets on the Balkans, with the goal of helping regional vets work more collaboratively, and share their experience and knowledge. In 2016, Dr Gancheva also started an initiative called “Learn and travel with vets in the Balkans”.
