24th EuroCongress of companion animal veterinarians

1,200 veterinary professionals from 40 countries to gather in Tallinn

Tallinn, June 2018 – 1,200 delegates from 40 different countries will gather in Tallinn this week for the 24th EuroCongress of the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA).

The aim of the congress is to share knowledge in the veterinary field through different lectures and workshops, and to discuss topics of pan-European interest such as responsible breeding, prescribing antibiotics for veterinary use and the identification and registration of pets.

The four-day congress, which takes place at the Creative Hub, will offer over 90 lectures, 16 specialty sessions and four workshops. Simultaneous English-Russian-English translations will be provided for one session each day. In addition to the main programme, there will also be a substantial programme for veterinary nurses.

The main organiser of the event is the Estonian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ESAVA), represented by ESAVA president and FECAVA representative Ingrid Hang. Estonia won the bid to organise this year’s EuroCongress due to its active FECAVA membership over the past years. ‘Holding the FECAVA Eurocongress in Estonia provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the high level of veterinary medicine in Estonia and the expertise of our colleagues,’ said Ingrid Hang. ‘In addition, this is a nice opportunity to introduce Estonia. Thanks to its media coverage, the Tallinn event will reach 100,000 contacts all over the world.

Special mention should go to the joint singing of veterinarians during congress – an event that will take place on the stairs of the Tallinn City Hall on June 15 at 8:30 am. New lyrics were especially created for the well-known “Brother John” tune, highlighting the importance of microchipping and registration of pets. According to Ingrid Hang, ‘veterinarians play a great role in raising awareness on the importance of microchipping pets, and we hope that joint singing will help this cause.’

On June 15 there will also be a small fair where congress participants can buy various Estonian goods.

The official opening of the congress will take place at the Creative Hub on Thursday, June 14, at 18:15. The congress will be opened by the ESAVA president Ingrid Hang and FECAVA president Wolfgang Dohne.

Journalists are welcome to the opening of the 24th FECAVA EuroCongress at the Creative Hub and to the joint singing of veterinarians on the steps of the Tallinn City Hall.
