Traveling with Pets from the UK to the EU

The United Kingdom (UK) left the European Union (EU) on January 31, 2020. A transition period is now in place until December 31, 2020.

The rules for pet travel from or in the UK might change at the end of the transition period if the UK and EU don’t reach an agreement.

Those wishing to travel after this date may be required to start the process 4 months in advance of travel, following the rabies vaccination and blood test protocol.

When the UK leaves the EU, it will be classed as a “third country”. There are 3 categories of third-country and the requirements will vary depending on which category the UK becomes.

The UK Government has indicated that rules for entry from the EU into UK with a pet will not change after January 1, 2021. All information on what you need to do if you are entering or returning to the UK from the EU with your pet is here: GOV.UK
