Illegal Pet Trade – Game Over

On April 21, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture and the Eurogroup for Animals organized the online workshop on the illegal trade of pets »Illegal Pet Trade: Game Over«. Almost 100 participants from animal academia, NGOs, experts from European institutions including Ann Criel, FECAVA Honorary Secretary, and member of the FVE Animal Welfare Working Group, as well as 25 speakers gathered at the event.

The major issues participants discussed were:
illegal EU-wide pet trade, mainly via uncontrolled online platforms;
the lack of identification and registration of animals and traders as well as the need for European interconnected databases;
organized crime and tax evasion;
consumer education.

The outcomes of the workshop will provide the base for future legal work on the matter.
