EU Platform on Animal Welfare: Responsible dog breeding and movement guidelines

The EU Platform on Animal Welfare, launched by the European Commission in 2017, is tasked to address the growing animal welfare concerns of millions of citizens across the EU.

In 2018, the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands hosted the first meeting of the EU Animal welfare Platform’s subgroup called The Health and Welfare of Pets in Trade.

The development and dissemination of informative material and targeted guidelines for breeders, competent authorities, sellers and consumers were seen as one of the objectives of the subgroup’s work plan.

The guidelines have now been published on the European Commission Animal Welfare Platform Website:

Responsible dog breeding guidelines
Responsible cat breeding guidelines
Commercial movement guidelines for dogs and cats
