FECAVA Summer Advice for responsible pet owners

Your pet should always have access to fresh drinking water and shade.

Know the signs of overheating/heatstroke in pets (heavy panting, excessive drooling, dry, bright red gums, labored and noisy breathing, wobbly legs, vomiting)

Animals with short faces, like Pugs, Bulldogs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heatstroke

Never leave your animals alone in a parked vehicle

Animals can get sunburns too!

Plan your walks early in the morning and in the late evening and avoid strenuous exercise

Avoid walking your dog on hot sand or pavements

Make sure your dog is protected from parasites like fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and sandflies

Make sure your dog is wearing identification

Keep your dog supervised at barbeque parties
