BSAVA Virtual Congress – It’s not over yet! – all content available until 22 May
BSAVA Virtual Congress 2021 may have finished just two weeks ago – but it’s not over yet! Although the live event is past, all content is still accessible for another 6 weeks. To access over 130 hours of CPD, 4 keynote lectures, and everything else Congress had to offer, make sure to log in to the Congress platform – or sign up now if you haven’t done so yet.
Glowing feedback
“BSAVA Virtual Congress received more than 3,300 registrations for the live event, said Sarah Fitzpatrick, Head of Events and Partnerships at the BSAVA, calling it “a phenomenal turnout given the challenges the profession is currently facing as a result of the pandemic, which has had a significant knock-on effect on various aspects of the industry including budgets and working hours.”
Participation far surpassed expectations and targets, particularly in relation to the virtual exhibition which was a resounding success. “Feedback has been glowing,” continued Sarah. “No one really knew what to expect from a virtual Congress, but the verdict appears to be that it worked extremely well and exceeded expectations.
“Around 20% of tickets were international – about double what we’d normally get at a live event. The innovative format and fact that the event was virtual made it more globally accessible.” The event – which received thumbs-up from four accrediting bodies* – also allows participants to review lectures or to dip into new ones at their convenience.
Highlights
Sessions included a wealth of presentations by some of the profession’s top names, including:
• Dermatologist Ariane Neuber-Watts and Behaviourist Sarah Heath, who had an interesting debate on Has covid caused stress-related alopecia?, with John Chitty providing insight from an exotics practice perspective.
• Catherine Oxtoby and Pam Mosedale considered the importance of checklists and clinical audit in ensuring patient safety, recognising that tools must be in place to mitigate potential errors and learn from mistakes that do occur.
• The ‘Can the Profession Go Green?’ stream had a hard-hitting presentation from Libby Kemkaran-Thompson explaining the science behind global warming and providing delegates with data to help with effecting behaviour change.
• In the ‘Neurology on a Shoestring’ stream Tom Cardy and Holger Volk considered the keys to cost-effective neurological diagnosis.
• Laura Owen and Alasdair Hotston Moore discussed ureteral ectopia and urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence during the session The Leaking Tap – What’s New?, as part of the Urogenital Tract Surgery module.
