FECAVA strikes to raise anesthesia and pain management standards in Europe with new campaign supported by Dechra.
FECAVA is launching a new campaign entitled “FECAVA Basic Practices in Anesthesia and Analgesia” with a series of important initiatives set to hit Europe in the next 12 months. The campaign should culminate with a series of presentations for the FECAVA Special Symposium during 27th FECAVA Euro Congress to be held in Prague, Czech Republic, between September 8-11th, 2021.
Dr. Polly Taylor, European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia from the United Kingdom, and Dr. Paulo Steagall, professor of Veterinary Anesthesia and Pain Management at the Université de Montréal in Canada will lead the project.
Dr. Polly Taylor and Dr. Paulo Steagall, leaders of the FECAVA anaesthesia project:
“Anesthesia and pain management have a huge effect on animal health and welfare. There is so much that can be done to improve its standards “at the coal face”. High quality anaesthesia can still be given without a bank of expensive monitors! Simple fundamental measures could save many lives in practice. We can no longer accept animals dying because “they did not tolerate anesthesia”. We do not want to reinvent the wheel, but we want veterinarians to have more basic tools that are immediately applicable in clinical practice. We couldn’t be happier to be working on this project together”, said Dr. Paulo Steagall and Dr. Polly Taylor.
Additionally, the campaign will include important lectures around Europe in the upcoming years and a series of six ready-to-use, printable posters/infographics. Posters can be laminated and used in practices. Each poster will come with a short “user’s note” for guidance. Topics will include:
1) The anesthetic plan
2) Pain assessment and building an analgesic protocol
3) Basic local anesthetic blocks for small animal practice
4) Monitoring
5) Minimizing complications
6) Anesthetic protocols
Denis Novak, FECAVA president:
“Basic standards of anesthesia and pain management are often a global problem in veterinary medicine and the campaign will aim to have an international outreach. FECAVA is extremely grateful to the support of Dechra. The company decided to support the most needed campaign and be a partner in all upcoming projects.”
Dechra, FECAVA educational partner in anaesthesia project:
At Dechra we believe that anaesthesia and analgesia are fundamentally important in veterinary practice. By providing a comprehensive, trusted product range and innovative educational materials, we want to support veterinarians in every practice and in every situation to be able to provide their patients with a high-quality anaesthetic experience. This is why we were so thrilled to be able to support FECAVA and Dr. Steagall and Dr. Taylor in this fantastic initiative.
The FECAVA tools will be easily accessible to all, even those with limited anaesthetic experience and equipment. We are particularly excited about the FECAVA Special Symposium where anaesthesia and pain management will be the focus of high-quality education and lively discussion between veterinarians.
Posters will be published every two months (starting in October) so stay tuned for more information and get ready to print, laminate and use your poster in your clinic/hospital!
