Dr. Adeline Betting

Adeline graduated in 2015 from the Veterinary School of VetAgroSup (Lyon, France). After graduation, she enrolled in a rotating internship program at the Veterinary School of Alfort ENVA (France). Following the successful completion of the rotating internship, she began a specialty internship in internal medicine in 2016 at the Veterinary School of Toulouse, ENVT (France). In 2018, she started a residency program of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM – SAIM) at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern (Switzerland). In 2022, Adeline achieved Diplomate status, becoming an ACVIM Board Certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Adeline has been working as a senior clinician in internal medicine at the Small Animals Hospital OnlyVet in Lyon (France) since September 2021.

Dr. Ana Nemec

Ana Nemec graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2004 and earned her PhD in Biomedicine there in 2009, focusing on periodontal disease. She completed her residency in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of California-Davis in 2012 and became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) in 2013. Since 2012, Ana has been an Assistant Professor at the Veterinary Faculty of Ljubljana. In 2019, she also started her consultancy company, ananemec.si. Ana is involved with several professional organizations, has received multiple awards, serves as an Associate Editor for Veterinary Dentistry and Oromaxillofacial Surgery, and is active in research and teaching, with a focus on oral biology.

Dr. Bart Broeckx

Bart Broeckx graduated as a veterinarian in 2011 and after obtaining his PhD in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and an additional Msc in Statistical Data Analysis, he started his tenure track at the Laboratory of Animal Genetics, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University with research focused on the identification of (epi)genetic causes for various diseases, healthy breeding of cats and dogs in general and assistance dogs more specifically and the development of new sequencing and bioinformatics approaches to work on these topics. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the chairholder of both the chair “Assistance Dogs Purpose Dogs” and the “Advice Center of Clinical Genetics” and founder of the dedicated small animal clinical genetics/genetic counselling facility at Ghent University.

Dr. Bogdan Alexandru Viţălaru

Professor Bogdan Alexandru Viţălaru is a distinguished veterinary professional with extensive experience in nephrology, urology, and emergency medicine. He graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest in 2004, obtained his PhD in 2009, and became a professor at the same institution in 2023. Dr. Viţălaru has made significant contributions to veterinary medicine, particularly in the field of renal care for small animals.Read more

Professor Bogdan Alexandru Viţălaru is a distinguished veterinary professional with extensive experience in nephrology, urology, and emergency medicine. He graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest in 2004, obtained his PhD in 2009, and became a professor at the same institution in 2023. Dr. Viţălaru has made significant contributions to veterinary medicine, particularly in the field of renal care for small animals.

In 2014, he established Romania’s first Veterinary Hemodialysis Clinic, one of the few in Eastern Europe. He has authored over 150 scientific papers and several books, including a widely-recognized work on peritoneal dialysis in small animals that received the Romanian Academy Award in 2019. Dr. Viţălaru’s expertise has led to his appointment as an Associate Professor at multiple European universities.

Throughout his career, Dr. Viţălaru has received numerous accolades, including the Continuing Medical Education Prize, Speaker of the Year award, and the Didier-Noël Carlotti Award from FECAVA. He currently serves as the President of AMVAC, FECAVA Director for Romania, and FECAVA Ambassador. In September 2023, Dr. Vițălaru has been elected by the FECAVA Council as General Secretary of FECAVA for 2023-2025.

In 2022, he was recognized with the Man of the Year Award for establishing Eastern Europe’s first veterinary hemodialysis clinic.

The greatest achievements of his life are Silvia his wife and his two beautiful daughters: Natalia and Sofia.

Dr. Charline Pressanti

Dr. Charline Pressanti has been passionate about dermatology for 20 years. She completed her residency at the veterinary school in Toulouse from 2010 to 2013 and graduated from the European College in 2014. Currently, she works as a hospital practitioner at the veterinary school of Toulouse, where she combines her role as a specialized clinician with teaching responsibilities for 5th- and 6th-year students and general interns. She holds the CES in dermatology and ophthalmology. Her enthusiasm for teaching and education is reflected in her active engagement in continuing education. She is involved in various CES, CEAV, and EPU programs, and leads numerous webinars and training days for general practitioners who wish to enhance their dermatology skills. Her commitment to education is further demonstrated by her contributions to continuing education journals through cross-disciplinary publications. In addition to her teaching role, Dr. Pressanti trains residents at the European College and supervises research projects. This research focuses on both fundamental and clinical aspects, and she has published findings in indexed journals. Her interest in other areas of veterinary medicine, particularly ophthalmology, allows her to integrate knowledge from this field into her research, exploring themes that bridge dermatology and ophthalmology.

Dr. Clarisse d’ Août

Clarisse graduated from the University of Liege (Belgium) in 2017. She then completed a rotating internship at the CHV Nordvet (Lille, France) before moving to the UK and working at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists as an Internal Medicine intern in November 2018. This was followed by a Small Animal Internal Medicine  residency and Clarisse became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA) in 2023. She is currently working as an Internal Medicine Specialist at North Downs Specialist Referrals, in Surrey (UK). She has a particular interest in gastrointestinal and endocrine diseases, but also in feline medicine and cat-friendly practice. She is part of the International Society of Feline Medicine (International Cat Care) scientific committee and has given lectures internationally on various feline topics

Dr. Eberhard Ludewig

Dr. Eberhard Ludewig is a highly respected veterinary diagnostic imaging specialist, currently serving as a Full Professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (Vetmeduni Vienna). He holds the titles of Uni.-Prof. med. vet. habil. and Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI). With a veterinary medical background from the University of Leipzig, Dr. Ludewig has an extensive career in academia and clinical practice, particularly in radiology and small animal medicine. He has authored 95 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to over 300 conference proceedings. Dr. Ludewig is actively involved in multiple professional organizations, including the European Association for Diagnostic Imaging (EAVDI) and the German Veterinary Society (DVG), and has served on various scientific boards.

Dr. Evelien Koole

Dr. Evelien Koole was born in Utrecht on February 3rd, 1982. She graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht in 2010, specializing in equine medicine. From 2011 to 2016, she worked as an all-round veterinarian in various practices as an employee, before continuing as a self-employed professional from 2016 to 2022. In 2022, she became co-owner of Dierenkliniek de Pijp, with the goal of further expanding our green clinic. She currently lives in Amsterdam with her husband and child.

Dr. Federico Fracassi

Dr Fracassi graduated in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) “cum laude  at the University of Bologna, Italy. In 2005 he defended his PhD thesis and then completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and became ECVIM-CA (internal medicine) diplomate in 2012. He is now an Associate Professor of Veterinary Internal Medicine at the University of Bologna. His main research focus is the field of small animal endocrinology. Read more

Dr Fracassi graduated in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) “cum laude  at the University of Bologna, Italy. He is the editor of “Veterinaria”, a peer-reviewed journal and associate editor of the Journal of Small Animal Practice. He has been president of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology and the Italian Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is currently vice-president of the ECVIM-CA congress board.  In 2017 he co-edited “Feline Endocrinology” (a book translated into 6 languages) with Dr Feldman and Dr Peterson. In 2022, edited “Diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms in Internal Medicine for dogs and cats” (book translated into seven languages).  In 2024 , he co-edited “Canine Endocrinology” with Dr Sara Galac. Dr Fracassi has lectured in 22 countries.

Dr. Hille Fieten

As an Associate Professor in the field of Veterinary Clinical Genetics, Dr Hille Fieten heads the Genetics Expertise Center of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. She works at the University Animal Hospital as an internal medicine specialist and in her work she is often confronted with animals that suffer from hereditary diseases or harmful external characteristics that could have been prevented through responsible breeding. Her clinical experience is an important motivation to conduct research with her team into harmful physical characteristics and hereditary diseases. In molecular genetic research aimed at discovering new disease-causing mutations in the DNA of dogs and cats, she also makes the link to similar hereditary diseases in humans. She was awarded a VENI grant for this work in 2019. She would like to make the results of her research practically applicable for veterinarians and breeders, in order to actually initiate improvements in the health and welfare of animals. To this end, she helped develop the PetScan diagnostic registration system and set up the Fit2Breed breeding guidance program for breeders. Since 2023, she has been a member of the Council for Animal Affairs, which advises the government on animal welfare issues.

Dr. Holger A. Volk

Holger is currently Professor of Small Animal Diseases and the Head of Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover, Visiting Professor of Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery, Royal Veterinary College, London and Affiliate Professor of Veterinary Neurology, University of Copenhagen. He graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover in 2001, where he also did his PhD in Neuropharmacology studying basic mechanisms of drug-resistant epilepsy. He then completed his specialist clinical education doing an internship and a residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). The RVC also provided him with the chance to not only excel academically and clinically, but also in his leadership skills, going through the reigns from lecturer to head of service, clinical director of the Small Animal Referral clinic and last as head of department of clinical science and services. Holger is internationally known for his work in the field of SARS-CoV-2 Medical Scent Detection Dogs, neuropathic pain and epilepsy. He was President of the European College of Veterinary Neurology and active in the Executive Board of Veterinary Specialisation as treasurer. Holger has been chairing the International Veterinary Epilepsy Task Force, which published seven consensus statements for canine and feline epilepsy and was a co-chair of the recent published ACVIM consensus statement about medical treatment of epilepsy and emergency seizures, and ECVN consensus about movement disorders. He has been a recipient of several Jim Bee educator excellent in teaching awards, Professor of the year in Germany (2nd rank biomedical sciences, Unicum), the prestigious Bourgelat Award and also the Woodrow from BSAVA, and the International Canine Health Award from the Kennel Club, and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) International Award. In 2022, Holger became fellow of the RCVS for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice. He has published multiple books and book chapters, >300 articles, >180 conference abstracts, and is a frequent flyer on the international conference circuit.

Dr. Jennifer von Luckner

EBVS specialist and diplomate of ECVIM-CA (Internal Medicine). She has worked in a university as well as in a private referral clinic setting in Germany, UK and Australia and is looking back on many years of experience with continuing education for practitioners.  Currently working at Laboklin laboratories as well as Anicura Ahlen, Germany (private referral hospital).

Dr. Kris Gommeren 

Kris Gommeren graduated from Ghent University in 2002, where he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine. In 2009, he became a diplomate of the European College of Internal Medicine and worked briefly in a referral practice before moving to the University of Liège, where he developed the ECC service. Kris Gommeren graduated from Ghent University in 2002, where he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine. In 2009, he became a diplomate of the European College of Internal Medicine and worked briefly in a referral practice before moving to the University of Liège, where he developed the ECC service. This emergency and intensive care service of the University of Liège has grown into a service with a team of 14 veterinarians, including specialists, residents in training, ECC-dedicated veterinarians, assisted by 6 ECC veterinary nurses and rotating interns. Together they see more than 3,500 emergency cases every year, offering the best possible care including mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal therapies and transfusions to an average of 8 intensive care patients per day; whilst teaching students the necessary day one competencies about this field. In 2017, Kris became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and in the meantime completed a PhD on the effects of systemic inflammation on the cardiovascular system. He is a recover certified instructor and completed the hemodialysis academy. His research focus is on clinical medicine, and he is the author of peer reviewed papers, book chapters and a book that all aim to help all veterinary practitioners. Kris is former president of the European Society of Emergency and Critical Care (EVECCS), founding member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care UltraSound (VECCUS) interest group, and co-founder of the Animal Blood Bank Benelux. He is passionate about teaching, especially on point-of-care ultrasound, assessment of the cardiovascular system in critically ill patients, fluid therapy, and the assessment of volume status and fluid responsiveness.

Dr. Kyra de Keyzer

Dr. Kyra de Keyzer knew from a young age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. In 2006, she started studying Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, and in 2013, she graduated in companion animals from the Faculty of Veterinary Science. After working as a veterinarian in Haarlem for five years, she decided to pursue her dream of opening her own practice. Seeing the growing importance of sustainability in veterinary medicine, she founded Dierenkliniek de Pijp in 2017, also known as “The Green Vet.” What started as a small practice with just one veterinarian and one veterinary nurse has now grown into a team of seven veterinarians and seven veterinary nurses by 2025, with two owners leading the clinic. Kyra currently lives in Amsterdam with her husband and three children.

Fun fact: Although I grew up with dogs, working in the clinic has turned me into a true cat lover!

Laurent graduated from Paris’ vet school, the Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort, in France in 1995 and was assistant instructor in the anatomy department the following year. He then qualified for a 2-year surgical internship in the same school and later completed a Master of Science in Biology and Physiology of Circulation and Respiration, as well as a university degree in Experimental Surgery and Microsurgery.

After having worked for 3 years in a large private practice outside Paris, he spent 4 years at the Centre Hospitalier Vétérinaire Frégis, near Paris, where he completed an ECVS residency. He became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008 and was recognised as a specialist in small animal surgery by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2012.

Laurent was a senior surgeon and director both at VRCC Veterinary Referrals in Essex from 2006 to 2014 and at Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue in Surrey from 2014 to 2022. He currently is a senior surgeon and director at AURA Veterinary in Surrey, UK.

His fields of interest include oncologic, reconstructive and general soft tissue surgeries.

Dr. Laurent Locquet
Laurent graduated in 2015 from Ghent University, Belgium and worked in general practice for one year both abroad in South Africa as well as in Belgium, primarily with cats, dogs and wildlife, before starting a rotating Internship in a busy referral centre in the UK. During his Internship, Laurent obtained his certificate in Veterinary Cardiology. After completing his Internship, Laurent completed a Residency in Veterinary Cardiology at the University of Ghent before joining a busy referral practice in the Greater London Area for one year before joining DWR Veterinary Specialists in  2022.

Laurent enjoys all aspects of veterinary Cardiology though he has a particular interest in procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass, minimally invasive interventions and wildlife cardiology.

Dr. Mariette Roelofsen

Dr. Mariette Roelofsen graduated as a veterinarian in 2001. After 7 years of general practioner in Harmelen, she worked for 5 years in the pet food industry. In those years she learned a lot about entrepeneurship. She also concluded that there is only one best job for her and that is being a practioner but then she would like to lead her own practice in her own way. Since 2013 she is the owner of Dierenkliniek Cato in IJsselstein. Building a longterm relationship with the pet owners and collaborating intensively with her team for the best results is her driving force. In the last 2 years Mariette has become more and more conscious of ‘going green’. In her practice she is constantly improving the building, the working ways and providing the right information to pet owners how to ‘do’ pets sustainable. Let her inspire you to go green.

Dr. Paul Mandigers

Dr. Paul Mandigers (graduated 1992, specialisation 1996, PhD 2005) is a veterinary specialist in Neurology. He is a diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) and as such a European specialist (EBVS). He is currently associate professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. Next to this he works as a clinician-researcher at the Evidensia Referral Hospital Arnhem as veterinary neurologist with a strong focus on neurological (breed-related) hereditary diseases. He is currently supervising five PhD projects (see also www.uu.nl/ecgg), is ECVN supervisor, member of the expertise centre of genetics of the faculty of veterinary medicine (ECGD), member of the International Veterinary Epilepsy Taskforce, the International Veterinary Dyskinesia Taskforce, and the “Fairdog” steering committee working on promoting breeding of Healthy Pets. Next to this he is currently Chairman of the division Companion Animal Veterinarians and board member of the Royal Dutch Society of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Paulo Steagall

Dr. Paulo Steagall is a Professor of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the City University of Hong Kong. He is a board-certified specialist by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. His research is focused on animal welfare and pain management including the AI-based and automated Feline Grimace Scale (www.felinegrimacescale.com). Dr. Steagall is a Top 2% most highly cited scientists according to the Stanford University. He has published over 140 scientific articles and the book “Feline Anesthesia and Pain Management” while lecturing internationally.

Dr. Rowena Packer 

Rowena is the Senior Lecturer in Companion Animal Behaviour and Welfare Science at the Royal Veterinary College. Rowena leads a research group exploring diverse topics in this area, including the impact of chronic and breed-related disorders on dog behaviour and welfare, breeding for better welfare, and the impact of owner knowledge, attitudes and behaviour on canine welfare, and frequently lectures internationally on these topics. She has received ~£2 million of research funding to date and regularly collaborates with charitable and industrial organisations. Rowena has co-authored >90 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters since 2012 and co-edited the textbook ‘Health and Welfare of Brachycephalic (Flat-faced) Companion Animals’ (2021). Rowena holds a PhD from the Royal Veterinary College (2013) which explored the impact of extreme conformation on canine health, a 1st Class BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare from the University of Bristol (2009), and a PGCert in Veterinary Education from the Royal Veterinary College (2021). Rowena is a founding member of Brachycephalic Working Group and the Legal Advisory Group on Extreme Conformation in Dogs, a Coordinating Group Member for the Animal Welfare Research Network, and a Canine Scientific Advisory Committee Member for Guide Dogs.

Dr. Sebastien Viaud

Sebastien Viaud (born 19/01/1976) is the Head of the Dermatology Department at CHV Anicura Aquivet in Mérignac, France, where he also serves as the Practice Manager and EBVS Accredited Program Director of the ECVD Residency (position held by Dr. Sarah Pariente, 2023-2026). He earned his DMV from the National Veterinary School of Alfort in 2008 and completed a residency in veterinary dermatology (2009-2012) under the mentorship of Dr. Didier-Noël Carlotti at Clinique Vétérinaire Aquivet.In 2013, he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD) and an EBVS European Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Viaud is an active member of several scientific organizations, including the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology (ESVD), the ECVD Review Committee (2017-2023), and the Study Group in Companion Animal Dermatology (GEDAC), where he is also part of the GEDAC Bureau (2021-present) and the GEDAC Scientific Council. He has authored or contributed to over 40 peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications and co-authored Dermatology of Exotic Animals (Bensignor E et al., Ed MED’COM, 2009). He has been an invited speaker at over 80 congresses and meetings worldwide, presenting in French, English, and Spanish in countries such as Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, Canada, Portugal, Croatia, Ukraine, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Lebanon, Scandinavia, and Egypt. Sam graduated from the Royal Vet College in 2002 and completed internships in private referral practice before starting a Feline Advisory Bureau Residency at Bristol University. She was awarded the European Diploma in Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2009.  In 2011 she became an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine and in 2019 was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for outstanding contributions to the profession. She is also a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Feline Medicine).  Sam is the International Society of Feline Medicine Veterinary Specialist Lead and works as a Medicine Specialist at Lumbry Park in Hampshire. Sam is an Honorary Lecturer in Internal Medicine at Surrey University Veterinary School, is an editorial board member for JFMS and Frontiers in Veterinary Science, a tutor on the Sydney CVE feline medicine course and coordinates the ISFM International Guidelines. Sam is also a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network (VIN). Sam co-authored guidelines on hypertension, diabetes mellitus, NSAIDs, acute pain, inappetence, blood transfusion, urinary tract disease and others. She has written books, book chapters and papers on internal medicine topics and enjoys a mix of clinical work, writing and lecturing. She has a particular interest in clinical research to answer those important clinical questions to practically improve feline health and wellbeing and has been involved in the worldwide launch of legal drugs to treat FIP.

After studying veterinary medicine at the Vet School Hannover and a short period in a private practice, Stephan Neumann started his career at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, University of Goettingen, in 1992.

He received the diploma as a national specialist for companion animals in 1996 and for veterinary clinical pathology in 1998.

In 2004 Stephan Neumann became a Diplomate of the ECVCP.  Since 2010 he has been a Professor at the University of Goettingen.

His paraclinical fields of interest are Clinical Pathology, Biomarker Research and Disease Mechanisms. The clinical fields are Orthopaedics and Gastroenterology, especially Hepatology.

He is a Board member of FECAVA, ESVCP, GSAVA, InnLab, CT-User Society, GSAVA Working Group “Gastroenterology”

Thomas Ploegers

Thomas is a passionate companion animals vet with the ambition to provide the most sustainable veterinary health care, he actively seeks opportunities to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. In 2024 Thomas pursued an internship focused on sustainable veterinary health care with the Royal Dutch Veterinary Association (KNMvD). In collaboration with the Dutch Green Veterinary Foundation he worked on the veterinary sustainability scan from January 2024 to May 2024. While the content of the scan already existed, Thomas contributed to the development of the practical tool, which was launched in May 2024. In his spare time, Thomas enjoys being a scout leader, participating in local and regional Scouting activities. He also loves cycling and hiking in nature, appreciating the simple joys of the outdoors. Thomas is excited to share his insights on sustainable veterinary health care, discussing the use of the sustainability scan, and offering his perspective on actions needed to advance sustainability in veterinary health care.

Dr. Xavier Lévy

Xavier Lévy is a veterinary surgeon specializing in animal reproduction, currently managing the Portes du Gers veterinary clinic and the Centre de Reproduction des Carnivores du Sud-ouest. He earned his veterinary diploma in 2003 and completed an internship at ENVA in 2004. Lévy has held significant roles in various veterinary organizations, including serving on the board of the European Society of Animal Reproduction and as vice-president of European and international affairs for AFVAC. Xavier Lévy is a veterinary surgeon specializing in animal reproduction, currently managing the Portes du Gers veterinary clinic and the Centre de Reproduction des Carnivores du Sud-ouest. He earned his veterinary diploma in 2003 and completed an internship at ENVA in 2004. Lévy has held significant roles in various veterinary organizations, including serving on the board of the European Society of Animal Reproduction and as vice-president of European and international affairs for AFVAC.

Since 2004, he has contributed to CRESAM’s scientific program, notably developing a non-invasive intrauterine insemination technique for wild felines. In 2008, he entered private practice and joined the FOVEA group in 2023, where he is focused on enhancing reproduction services within the network.

Xavier Lévy is also an independent expert for veterinary laboratories and has organised numerous veterinary congresses. He contributed mainly to the development of:

– New diagnostic and therapeutic tools for canine prostate disorders
– Caesarean section planning in the bitch,
– New Diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for female infertility
– Implementation of assisted reproduction protocols for wild carnivores

His research interests also include, newborn care, urogenital surgery, and conservation efforts for endangered species. He has published extensively in national and international veterinary journals.
