Male cats are ‘southpaws’

For the first time, researchers have investigated lateralised spontaneous behaviour in the domestic cat and discovered female cats are much more likely to use their right paw than their male counterparts.Scientists at Queen’s University Belfast recruited 44 cats – 24 male and 20 female – for the study, in which pet cats were monitored as they performed three spontaneous behaviours: lying on their side, stepping down a flight of stairs and stepping over a raised object.
