Benefits of Becoming a FECAVA Member Association

The Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) provides a collaborative platform for the promotion of professional development and the representation of companion animal veterinarians across Europe. By becoming a FECAVA member, national veterinary associations gain meaningful support, visibility, and influence within the wider European veterinary community.

1. Representation at the European Level

Membership ensures that your association has a recognised voice in discussions on matters affecting companion animal practice. FECAVA actively contributes to European debates on clinical standards, animal welfare, antimicrobial resistance, education, and professional regulation, enabling member associations to participate in shaping relevant policies.

2. Access to Continuing Professional Development

Member associations and their veterinarians benefit from high-quality educational opportunities, including webinars, clinical guidelines, and other learning resources. Members also receive preferential access and discounted registration for the annual FECAVA EuroCongress, one of Europe’s leading small-animal veterinary events.

3. Networking and Professional Collaboration

FECAVA connects more than 40 national associations, facilitating the exchange of expertise, best practice, and professional insight. Member representatives have opportunities to collaborate through committees, working groups, and European projects that strengthen the companion animal veterinary profession.

4. Support for National Priorities

FECAVA assists member associations by providing guidance and advocacy on cross-border challenges, welfare issues, and regulatory developments. This support enhances the association’s national influence and contributes to the harmonisation of veterinary standards across Europe.

5. Member Advantages and Recognition

Veterinarians from member associations gain access to the FECAVA members’ area, benefit from reduced registration fees for FECAVA, WSAVA and partner events, and receive access to exclusive educational resources. Membership also serves as a recognised mark of professional affiliation within the European veterinary community.

6. Educational and Welfare Initiatives

FECAVA develops and promotes European initiatives on animal welfare, mental health and well-being of veterinarians, responsible pet ownership, and workplace safety. Member associations may adopt and adapt these resources to support national campaigns and programmes.

7. Enhanced International Profile

Membership raises the profile of the association and its veterinarians within Europe. National associations are featured in FECAVA communications, publications, and directories, offering increased visibility and opportunities for international engagement.

8. Mobility and Exchange Opportunities

FECAVA encourages the sharing of clinical skills and experiences through exchange and mobility initiatives, which are especially valued by early-career veterinarians. These programmes strengthen professional development and promote collaboration between European practices.

9. Access to Standards and Best-Practice Guidance

Member associations receive access to a wide range of FECAVA guidelines covering clinical practice, animal welfare, workplace well-being, and communication with clients. These resources may be used directly or adapted for national implementation.

10. A Unified European Profession

By joining FECAVA, national associations contribute to a stronger, more coherent European community of companion animal veterinarians. Working together enhances the profession’s collective ability to engage with European institutions, industry partners, and global veterinary organisations.
