This paper reviews the current knowledge about an important zoonotic dog and cat parasite, Toxocara. A good understanding of the epidemiology is required so that effective prevention of infection in man, dogs and cats can be possible. Education of the dog and cat owner will be signifi cant in prevention. In this review, the epidemiology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and control in the dog, the cat and the human will be discussed. Uniform guidelines for deworming dogs and cats will be given.
