A new board (2017-2019) was elected by the Council of the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) on 27 September in Copenhagen. Wolfgang Dohne (UK) is FECAVA’s new president, replacing Jerzy Gawor (Poland), now senior vice president. Incoming board member is Danny Holmes from Ireland. Past president Monique Megens (Netherlands) left the board. The election took place during FECAVA Council meeting at the 23rd EuroCongress in Copenhagen, held jointly with the congresses of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association and the Danish Small Animal Veterinary Association.Read more

The new FECAVA membership card honours another European veterinarian, Saki Paatsama (1918-1998) from Finland. A great visionary and one of the fathers of veterinary surgery and orthopaedics – creator of the ‘over-the-top’ technique of the stifle – he was professor of surgery at the Helsinki Veterinary School for many years. He was also actively involved in many organisations including the WSAVA, ESVS, ESVOT and the International kennel club (FCI).
Brussels, August 2017 – The Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) is proud to announce that Eric Guaguère (France) is the first recipient of the 2017 Didier-Noël Carlotti Award. August 2017 – Shailen Jasani (UK) and Viktor Szatmári (Netherlands) are the 2017 recipients of the FECAVA awards for best original and best reprint paper, respectively, published in the European Journal of Companion Animal Practice (EJCAP). The awards will be presented during the opening ceremony of the 23rd congress of the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA), to be held in Copenhagen next month.
