Brachycephalic dogs: German initiatives against ‘defect breeding'

During the general assembly of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe today, Petra Sindern (vice president of German association of veterinary practitioners, BpT) gave a short presentation on the actions undertaken by the German veterinary working group on ‘defect breeding’ (Qualzucht). Actions included the production of press releases, contacts with the media regarding the use of brachycephalic dogs in advertising, owner education material, congress lectures and checklists for healthy puppies. Petra also congratulated FECAVA on its initiatives and said she would promote the use of airflow-reducing masks in practice to help educate owners.
