Two in five (44%) vets cannot reunite missing or stray dogs with their owners due to incorrect information on the microchip database reveals the British Veterinary Association (BVA) one year on from the introduction of compulsory microchipping for dogs in England, Scotland and Wales (6 April 2016).BVA's Voice of the Veterinary Profession survey found that seven and 10 vets believe that the majority of dogs they see in practice have now been microchipped, in line with the new legislation. However, a microchipped dog that has out of date contact details on the microchipping database means it is very difficult for vets to reunite them with their owners.

The Directive on professional qualification recognition has introduced 2 new tools: the professional card, aiming to ensure a more effective cross borders movement and the alert mechanism. The alert implies that Competent Authorities of EU countries quickly warn each other of professionals who have been prohibited or restricted from practicing the profession or have used falsified diplomas.

Officially launched in April 2016 by three leading international One Health groups, the One Health Commission, the One Health Initiative Autonomous pro bono Team, and the One Health Platform Foundation, this initiative has grown into an annual, sustainable platform for One Health
